AKH Glass

Ariel Hill is an indigenous artist from Alberta. Here's her bio:

HELLO I’M: Ariel Hill - AKH Glass

I MAKE: Blown Glass works for the home as well as planters and solid glass sculptural work.

I’M FROM: Six Nations of the Grand River and Wikwemikong, Ontario

I CURRENTLY LIVE IN: Revelstoke, BC

I ATTENEDED SCHOOL AT: The Alberta College of Art + Design University, where I obtained my B.F.A with a major in glass. I also hold a Jewelry Certificate from the Kootenay School of the Arts.

BEFORE I WAS AN ARTIST: I was a ski bum slinging drinks in the Bow Valley.

I’VE BEEN MAKING SINCE: childhood but started making more professionally in 2012 as a silversmith and in 2016 as a glassblower.

MY FAVOURITE MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES ARE: working with furnace glass (not flame working or kiln work) to blow decorative and functional wares for personal and professional spaces. My palette is derived from the natural world.

I’M INSPIRED BY: Mother Earth first and foremost; the natural world is my most dominant inspiration for my work. Secondly, contemporary glass artists Clare Belfrage, William Morris and Raven Skyriver inspire me.

I MAKE BECAUSE: It is my passion. I want to share meaningful objects with people to enhance their spaces and lives. By creating a visual stimulus I believe I can connect the viewer to a deeper emotional response to the context of the work, which is often rooted in landscape.
