The title for the Visible Hemispheresseries was suggested by an old printed engraving that depicts the known lunar surface. It points out the meridian of contact between the visible and invisible hemispheres of the moon, the familiar perimeter that defines our experience of the illuminated moon from our vantage point on earth. The printed page can only portray the visible hemisphere; the other half of this familiar heavenly body remains a mystery. Yet the visible hemisphere can bring our attention to reach beyond immediate physical circumstance, to expand to include that other, shadow twin. These works are part of a series of dialogues with material and form to ponder what such an experience might be like. They remain, fundamentally, empty pages.
