Collection: Mobairu

Mobairu is a Canadian studio founded in 2018 by long-time friends John Booth and Dirk Kalff, dedicated to the design and fabrication of compelling, well-crafted decorative objects. Our design beliefs are purposeful, contextual and forward-thinking. Mobairu is based in Toronto.

John is a painter, furniture maker and the co-founder of Bookhou, in partnership with his wife, Arounna Khounnoraj. His furniture has been commissioned by leading galleries and museums across North America, and his mobiles hang in dozens of countries around the world. John studied Fine Art at Queen’s University and Architecture at the University of Toronto.

Dirk is a recovering management consultant, recently returned to Canada after 25 years away. Dirk studied Biology at Queen’s University and Business Administration at the University of Chicago.

Mobairu’s initial collection features a small range of mobiles designed and built by John in our Toronto studio and reflecting nature. These beautiful Botanical collection mobiles are inspired by the plant life that surrounds us and explores the relation between art and kinetics.
