Artist Statement
I paint in watercolour because of its ability to make both extremely light and heavy marks. I value the transparent, stain-like qualities of washes and use them to create layers and interpenetrating elements. Heavier applications of paint, I manipulate by flooding sections of their surfaces which makes solid forms erode, develop texture, and reveal the white of the paper.
In my paintings I want to juxtapose the ideas of transformation and permanence. In their manipulated surfaces I want to express a feeling of turbulence, in their more solid forms and colours, a feeling of calm.
