Artist Statement:
"This work is the second in my four-part Abrasion Series where I have been exploring shape, surface texture, subtle and not so subtle colour. Walking in downtowns, every neighbourhood has a grimy underbelly where unexpected beauty can be found. The bursts of colour on a rusty post or a crumbling textured cement wall, do not always attract. But a second, studied glance, can reveal the beauty there, even if it is only a fragment. This series requires a little time to discover the beauty in the dark surfaces. I like the idea of not everything being immediately available, but requiring a little time to discover."
