Artist Statement:
"The bronze pear series began as an anthropomorphic reflection of the human body. The first in the series, Pear-Shaped, referenced a body type — soft and curved bringing connection to its form. This particular piece, titled Soul-Smashingly Beautiful, is the second in the pear series, taking its name from a letter in Cheryl Strayed’s Dear Sugar, where the writer described a moment of profound emotional truth where beauty and pain can coincide in a situation.
"Those words struck me. I applied them to this small bronze form — a material often used for monuments, now scaled down to something intimate, delicate, and personal. The pear becomes its own little monument: a sentimental object cast in an enduring medium.
